Hair Trends: Ways to Style Short/Medium-Length Hair!

I recently cut my hair into like a shoulder-length type style after having years of super-long (like past my back) hair. I'm sure all people with short hair will understand me when I say, you run out of styles to do with your hair REALLY fast. One of the most frustrating things for me was that when I went online to look for other styling ideas all I could find was ways to get your hair cut short. So, for all those looking to change up your short locks, look no further!

Style 1: The Braided Bang
This is one of my favorite looks to do, it looks so simple and cute and keeps the hair out of your face. You can leave it at just the bangs, or pull the rest back too for a different look.

Style 2: Boho Waves

This beachy look looks beautiful and carefree on any length hair, but I especially love it on short hair now. So cute and spunky! Ashley Benson (left) frequently rocks this look on her new short tresses on the hit ABC Family show, Pretty Little Liars. (hint: this style looks 100x better when you use some wave spray!)

Style 3: Twisted Back Sections

This is my go-to style when I'm running late for school. It keeps the hair out of your face and looks chich too! This style is typically worn with  a middle part, but if that's not your thing it'll work with a side part too. My favorite way to wear this is with waves or loose curls to give it a more boho vibe.

Style 4: Choppy Ponytail

work that short pony! When I first got short hair I was really self conscious about having such a short, spiky ponytail but eventually it grew on me! I find the best way to wear it is with some pieces intentionally hanging out, like the front, for example, as you can see in the picture. It looks spunky and fun!

Style 5: Headbands, of course.

Of all styles with short hair, headbands are undoubtedly my fave. Silky headbands, patterned headbands, simple headbands, there are just so many different looks you can do with them! I admit I thought they were hard to wear at first, but when you start experimenting with different styles and incorporate them you'll see them as another accessory or accent to an outfit or hairdo. Pull your hair back, add it to a curly do, or throw one on with a ponytail; the possibilites are endless!

Style 6: The Pouf

The easiest style of all time, you just need some bobby pins and some practice teasing your hair! I find the best way to get pouf-success is to lift the desired hair you want to use, tease underneath and then pin it back pushing it forward. You'll get maximum volume this way and ensure it won't flatten out. The best thing about this style is that it can be fancy or casual, depending on how you style the rest. It'll look perfectly pretty with some curls or sporty and on-the-go with a ponytail or natural hair.

Style 7: Sleek Straight

I know, I know it's typical. But, you have to admit, timeless! It's looks especially pretty on short hair and is very easy to achieve. All you need is a straightener and some straightening cream (optional). If you want to spice up the look, I like to pin back one side of my hair to give it a more dramatic look.

Style 8: Ombre/Waves

This one requires a little more work! I know this isn't really a hair "style" but I love it so much on Miley Cyrus, I had to suggest it. Ombre basically is just the gradual fading of hair color, typically from brown to blonde. It is super popular with long hair, but Miley shows us it can work for shorties, too! The best way to do this is with your hairstylist because it can be very tricky and easy to mess up. If you want to achieve her wavey look WITHOUT the ombre, just use a curling iron and curl bigger sections for a shorter period of time.

Style 9: Curls

Of course, curls are flattering for almost any hairlength. All you need is a curling iron or straightener if you know how to curl with it, some hairspray, and you're good to go! Remember, the smaller the section of hair the tighter the curls will look.

Style 10: The Bun

This look is adorable and perfect for warm weather to get your hair away from your face! You'll need a lot of bobby pins if you have layers and some hair ties. (PS, Miley had short-shoulder length hair while rocking this do, if she can do it so can we!)

Style 11: The Half-Up/Half-Down Pony

With short hair, you're bound to have pieces fall out of your ponytail eventually. Why not start it off that way, intentionally? Just leave your hardest-to-keep-in-ponytail hair down along with some extra and leave the rest in a loose high pony. This looks best with bangs down, to add to the messy look. Curling or waving your hair adds extra chic-ness to this look as well!

Well, that's all I have for you short/medium length hair folks. I hope this helped switch up your day to day hair and gave you some inspiration! Whether you're trying to grow it out, or find ways to style it, rock it! It's whats on the inside that counts. (but having fab hair doesn't hurt) :) xo!
